A volunteer-led nonprofit in formation
North American Tango Association
We're helping Argentine tango grow in the US, Canada and Mexico: easier to find, better taught, and easier to bring great artists here.
Why we're doing this
Teaching tango is a lot of work for very little money. Bringing a couple from Buenos Aires costs thousands in visa fees before anyone buys a plane ticket. The regional teachers who used to travel between communities have mostly stopped. Every city figures this out on its own.
At the same time, a lot of people are lonely, and a milonga is one of the few places where strangers become friends every week.

21%
of US adults felt lonely “a lot of the day yesterday” in 2025. Among adults under 30 it was 29%.

What we're working on
Tango Near Me

Better teaching
Training for teachers, organizers and DJs.
Visiting artists
Visa guidance, group attorney rates, shared tours, and grants toward visa costs.
Residencies
Teaching couples who stay six to eight weeks in one city.
Community grants
Help with the cost of space, so tango stays affordable.
Run by volunteers
The Association is volunteer-run and volunteer-led, with an independent board from across the continent, so no one studio, city or region runs it. We're forming now. If you'd like to help shape it, we'd love to hear from you.
